DIY retail working hours/days?

Hi does anyone know the usual working days of working in somewhere like Homebase, Magnet or Wicks? ie How many weekends per month. I have been living in Cyprus for 7 years but am returning to the UK with my 13yr son after a difficult separation from my husband of 17yrs. I have retrained as an interior designer and had a career in retail up until my son was 4 so I am hoping to get a job as a kitchen sales designer but am really worried about leaving my son by himself every weekend especially at this difficult time/age. Any help of how the DIY retail sector works would be greatly appreciated. I am very worried about trying to get a job after being out of it for about 11 years not to mention in a foreign country! But I am soooo worried that my husband will not support us financially that I need to get a job as soon as I arrive next month.

Most FT retail jobs include Saturday as a working day so you'd work 5 days out of Mon- Sat on a rota and, say, every 3rd Sunday although this may vary especially if you work pt as the days/hours may be more fixed.

Thanks for your reply. It's not ideal but every 3rd Sunday wouldn't be too bad and I guess I would be home one day a week when he gets home from school. I also have family near by but I know he would rather stay at home than go to Grandmas at 13!

I don't want to rain on your parade but my bil has just been made redundant from the same job by one of the companies listed and is really struggling to get another job. He also had to work one evening a week til 10pm in his old role which is something else to think about.

Hi rocketeer, very worrying new sorry to hear about bil. I am pretty screwed if I can't get a decent paying job.
