Demonstration of managing a FT role in PT hours

I have a job interview next week and I'm struggling with how I will demonstrate I can do the job advertised with my work pattern (I'm confident is doable based on speaking with colleagues currently doing this role). The job is advertised as FT and I asked if I would still be considered for it as I'm PT and the answer was yes, but how would you demonstrate that you can manage the role PT? It's office based; IT, project driven work with some team leader duties.
So other than saying I will plan carefully and manage my time well and prioritise etc. how can I show I can do it on PT hours? I'm struggling with this... Any suggestions?

How about also looking at it from the perspective of how you'll manage things that need to happen outside your hours? If there is particular deadline, major issue or things are behind schedule or unexpected. Would you delegate or would you be contactable (factor this into the hours you'd work too)?
IT is all about cost efficiencies and value on return these days so how you will bring that. Do you have any particular skills experience that would be more beneficial than having someone else who can do FT?
I take it you will be a project manager or equivalent, so ensuring your meetings etc happen when you are in the office and you are your expectations with the team for the week and check with them before you finish and advise them what to so in your absence.
Don't undersell yourself either as they will be making a considerable saving to get the same output from a PT rather than FT!

It is how you will manage things that crop out outside your contractual hours that is key. I am guessing you will need to show flexibility and check your blackberry regularly or work remotely as necessary.

How PT do you want to go?

Well I currently work 21 hrs over 4 days and the job I'm being interviewed for is the next step up.
I'm am always checking my bb and the management know I will respond if needed outside of my working hours. Thanks both, it's so difficult!

That is pretty part time. If they are advertising a FT job, I think a 4 day a week flexi equivalent is probably what they can stomach upfront. In my previous firm when I worked in the IT department for a brief period, they did not think project management could be done pt or from home. Therefore, you may have your job cut out for you to convince them.

Better to go FT first but say you would be looking to see whether the job could be done PT with a view to that in the future. Or if you want PT from the word go, I don't think 21 hours will wash and you might have to set your sights lower first but I guess you never know.

Having worked PT and FT and with PT and FT staff, it can be a logistical exercise to plan around a PT-er. So flexibility on both sides is key.

The best way to do this in a cost effective way is to delegate everything that is below your pay grade. Most people do tins of donkey work that does not require the two degrees and decade of experience that their job spec requires so find out what admin support there is and work out how to delegate stuff.
E.g a £30k a year person earns about £14 per hour. So delegating menial tasks to a £15k per year support staff or even a temp can be a real money saver.
