What's going on with the youth of today?!?

Dh asked me this morning if the clocks were going back or forward, and whether it means you get an extra hour in bed. When I told him that they were going forward, and it means 1 hour less in bed, he was really upset.

I couldn't understand his dismay - surely after 7 years with kids, he knows that lie-ins are a thing of the past? But no, he was annoyed, 'cos it meant that his staff might not get into work on time tomorrow, and he hadn't realised in time to remind them.

FFS! Mostly they're students, but they're still grown adults. Surely they should be able to take responsibility for getting themselves into work on time even if the clocks have changed. I really can't belive that it's necessary for dh and his managers to make a point of telling these people to make sure they change their clocks.

What is the world coming to? Does no-one take responsibility for themselves any more?

apparently not Emsiewill - but I wouldn't think to remind any of my team about it. Is he always that involved about work?
What will he do if they are an hour late - dock them an hours pay I hope, or they won't learn to take responsibility for themselves

emsiewill · 27/03/2004 21:51

Yes, obsessed is the word I would use. Not sure what they do to someone who is late for this reason. Probably sit them down and offer them counselling.

Then tell him to get a grip! If he babies them they won't be responsible will they?! MEN! Tut

emsiewill · 27/03/2004 21:54

Hmmm, I think I'll point that out to him. He's not keen on my helpful hints for work, though. I told him I didn't know why he was so concerned about an audit - if everyone was doing their job properly then they would get 100%. He just looked at me.

Ahh but he is right about auditors
They are either rottweilers (finding tiny errors and blowing them right out of proportion) or bulldogs, (just keep digging till they find something)
Bloody wastrels, just trying to justify their jobs, terrorising people!

emsiewill · 27/03/2004 22:04

Yes, he's had a verbal warning because of a string of bad audit results

Maybe that's why he doesn't like my "helpful" hints?

GeorginaA · 27/03/2004 22:09

Shit... the clocks go forward tonight?! I didn't know

emsiewill · 27/03/2004 22:12

Oh you lot! Is my dh the only responsible adult left in the world?

Actually, we got caught out by this on the day after our wedding - we wondered why our breakfast turned up at 8 instead of 9, and why my dad turned up an hour early to pick us up. D'oh! (and in case you're interested it was 9 years ago last Thursday)

happy anniversary!

emsiewill · 27/03/2004 22:18

Oh thanks! Not that I was fishing for that, of course!

Nine years ? That went quickly. I think if memory serves that was the day before Mother's day that year, so maybe your Dad was keen to check out the local florists to make sure your floral displays arrived on time !!.

I didnt realise the clocks went forward until Fred Bassett reminded me in the Daily Mail (we're very close !) so he's responsible for my household organisation at present-sounds about right in the scheme of things!

No people dont take responsibility generally for much these days, its particularly easy to cop out if they are of the male species ! Do I sound cynical? Too many night feeds, where my husband moans if his sleep pattern is disturbed longer than 5 minutes (keep reminding him thats what he signed up for !!)
