This seems to crop up a lot in online career advice- do you do it?
I think it's an American etiquette rather than here...
If you do, how do you get their email address?
Do you send it after the first interview?

I have send more informal ones via linkedin after I've met someone at a networking event but that also has the purpose of connecting with them. I've also sent to a recruiter if I've met with them to discuss general opportunities (thanks for meeting, as I said I'm interested in XYZ roles, hope to hear from you etc).

Would you send one after a telephone interview?

Don't do it! I have interviewed many people and I wouldn't like like to receive one at all.

FairyPenguin · 20/06/2014 17:11

No but I always make sure I thank them for their time at the end of the interview.

PeppermintInfusion · 20/06/2014 17:19

Yeah it just seems a bit... Desperate to me!
I thanked them for their time at the end and checked there was nothing they wanted me to clarify. Job done then Smile

No! Shock

I say someone mention having sent them before on MN today (in Chat I think). It would just be a bit arse licky and more than a bit cringe IMO and the recipient would be wondering how you tracked them down in all likelihood!

I had one recently. The candidate was desperate to work in our sector and in the interview came across as quite pushy and overly keen. The letter seemed OTT and cringeworthy.

I work in the public sector and we assess suitability based on a person specification so the letter wasn't ever going to have a bearing upon thst.
