When I resigned today my boss referred me to occupational health - do I have to comply?

I have just resigned today due to extreme work stress and exhaustion which has significantly impacted both my health and day to day work efficiency.

This was due to issues of work overload and harrassment which despite repeated flagging to my line manager were not addressed over many months and still remain unresolved.

I am not interested in persuing a grievance - I dont have the mental or physical capacity to take this on. However after I sent my letter saying I was resigning my boss called me at the end of today (I am off sick today) to say that due to the content of my letter she is referring me to occupational health.

What does this mean? Do I have to go -as I am perfectly happy seeing my own GP? Or is this just a late in the day arse covering exercise to protect herself and demonstrate that she "provided appropriate support" and the company fulfilled "its duty of care" as my stress is now documented in black and white?

My back story...

Why the new thread? Confused

deepest · 02/06/2014 20:29

I started this thread because this is a very separate and specific Q - asking for advice wrt my need to comply to attend an OH interview/assessment arranged by my boss during my notice period after I have already resigned. And I hoped to attract insights with the specific wording in the title.

My previous thread was about resigning due to ill health and had nothing to do with OH. I updated that thread for the benefit of other MNers who had posted and said they were watching as they were in a similar situation.

5 replies (including mine) on your other thread with the same question:

It might be easier to just run with one thread so that all of the help offered to you is in one place.

Thanks waffle for all your support - I thought that I would get a different and/or additional perspective from the MNers in the Mental Health area who very likely may have been in this position than those following Employment Issues. Apologies if this looks like I am duplicating - I had assumed that different people with different perspectives followed different threads. I do not want to annoy anyone.
