Part Time and Holiday Entitlement

Please could someone help me with my query regarding the above.

I work four days a week (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday).
Holiday entitlement is 20 working days per year.
Bank Holiday entitlement is adjusted to 6.5 days.

If one of my normal working days falls on a Bank Holiday I am required to take a day from my 26.5 days leave entitlement.

So taking this year for instance, seven Bank Holidays fall on the days I work (1 Jan, 21 Apr, 5 May, 26 May, 25 Aug, 25 Dec & 26 Dec).

Due to me getting 6.5 days for BH, does that mean I take a further 0.5 days from my 20 days annual holiday entitlement?

That's how mine works.

I generally break even but most bank holidays fall on a Monday but I don't work Mondays so I think that helps

So is that corrent - that if there are say seven bank holidays and my entitlement is 6.5 days I have to take another 0.5 days from my 20 day entitlement?

Also, if say four bank holidays fall on the days I work then I gain 2.5 days?

Yes, that's right.
My work has also just changed the system for everyone, so that bank holidays are added to normal holidays and you just put holiday on your time sheet rather than bank holiday.

Sounds normal to me. How else would it work?

mercibucket · 29/05/2014 11:34

Yes
That is how it works

Thank you for all your replies - very much appreciated.

Yes it is right, thats why it doesn't pay to work Mondays if thats how your annual leave & bank holidays are apportionned. There are 8 bank holidays every year (last year was 9 because of the Royal Wedding but that was an exception) but 4 out of 8 will always be on a Monday (regardless of how Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day fall). I also do 4 days and purposely do Tues - Fri for exactly that reason. I also get 6.5 days, but the maximum I ever have to take for Bank holidays is 4, but its usually 2 or 3. Most years I therefore "gain" an extra weeks leave or thereabouts rather than as in your case having to "spend" my own annual leave on covering bank holidays.

Yep, that's how it works. I also don't work Mondays, works well in my favour!
