Can I go on strike

I am about to start a new job for a Local Authority which is a politically restricted role. I am also a member of a Union which is balloting for strike action. If the ballot is in favour of a strike, can I strike or am I now not permitted to as it is a political activity.

The LA will have specific guidelines on what this means, but my understanding is that it means you cannot take an active role in party politics (i.e. cannot stand for election or canvas on behalf of a party etc).

I don't think union activity is restricted.

Example guidelines here: www.london.gov.uk/sites/default/files/Guidance-political-restriction.pdf

OK thank you. I was just a bit concerned that if I did strike, it would be seen as being biased towards a particular political party and their stance on the issue in question.
