Would this be cheeky or sensible?

I'm currently on mat leave, due back July 1st.

I'm going on holiday on June for 10 days.

I know an internal Position is likely to come up at work over the next few weeks because of staffing changes and they will need to appoint by end of July. I would really like to go for this position. However I'm worried it will be advertised while i am on holiday and I will miss the boat.

Would it be reasonable to email relevant person and explain my predicament and hope that this will affect the timings of interviews etc? Or is that a bit off?

Yes I would. I wouldn't expect them to rearrange interviews entirely if they need to be while you're away, but if interviews do fall while you're away, they may be prepared to delay a decision and interview you as soon as you get back or something.

Why not ask if you can have an interview before you on holiday? That way you are not delaying them. Nothing wrong with being keen.
