Maternity Allowance?

In the last few days I found out I am pregnant with my first child. Before I discovered this I quit my job, will I still be able to get maternity allowance from the government even though I quit rather than got fired/made redundant?

No. It's all about having worked enough during the 9 months of your pregnancy and the 6 months before that. As long as you've done a total of 26 weeks during that period, and have met the (low) earnings requirement, you are fine.
