Statutory sick pay

Do employers have to pay ssp when staff are off sick or is it optional? I don't qualify for the company sick pay so would be reliant of statutory sick pay. Thanks xx

Yes, they have to pay if you qualify but you don't get anything until you've been off for 4 consecutive days

See, I earn over £111 a week but don't pay tax or NI. Does that mean I still qualify? Have been at company since September x
