Starting out as a freelance graphic designer...

I've decided to jack in my full time job to look after my kids over the summer. Then I'm going to be looking for freelance work, mainly to do from home, and I want to start looking asap. I come from a mag/book publishing background and my strengths are mainly Adobe CS, and I have done some website design, though no programming.

Where do I start? Local publishing and design companies, or bigger companies further afield?? Do I advertise? Who do I ask to speak to - HR or managers?

I have freelanced from home before but that was usually through friends contacts and sort of fell in my lap. I want to try and establish a steady work flow and not sure where to start...

Don't bother with talking with HR departments. They are not often interested in the mechanics of how their companies produce revenue. Talk to the people at the sharp end - sales, marketing.
