Hi - I work for a supermarket and we recruit temps for xmas - can only speak for the company I work for, but our temps need to be reasonably flexible with the hours they can work. Saying that, if you are upfront with them from the application stage about what you can and can't do, they should respect that, and if the hours that you're looking for suit them, then you should be alright! The day before xmas eve is the busiest day of the year for us, so if you say you can do the 23rd but would rather have the 24th off, you may be ok. Good luck!

oh definitely go for M & S, I did one xmas with them and they are really good employers. The least hours they had on offer was 16 I believe though this may be different in different areas I guess. Training was good, and the tills really do operate themselves - I found it so stress free. The canteen was as good as Malory says, and drinks were free!

I'd do it again, definitely.

oh, meant to say that yes, they did want our hours right accross xmas including xmas eve, new years eve; there wasn't an option to say no to this, when I accepted the job I had to accept the working pattern.

whats the pay like with them, think I might ring tomorrow for an info pack, have to say i have never ever worked a xmas eve for years and having been shopping at M&S on a xmas eve god knows what its like to work there! but its cash at the end of the day and I only want to do it as I don't want to put pressure on DH (i'm a SAHM) as xmas is so expensive
