Reduced hours after maternity leave

Hi just looking for any advice on where I may stand. I am a teacher in an independent school. Have just asked my employer if I can return part time after my maternity leave. Have asked for two or three days depending on the what works best with school and have offered to teach any where in school. The initial conversation didn't sound too promising. The last 5 people at work ho have asked for reduced hours after maternity leave have all even given them including a colleague who asked three weeks before me. Does anyone know where I stand if am declaimed ? Many thanks

I think legally they have to agree to reduced hours unless they can give a really good reason why not (usually that it would be more expensive for the organisation if you went part-time). Are you a member of a union? It might be worth getting their advice.
