Lunchtime supervisors!

So I'm going to start work soon as a lunchtime supervisor - and I'm looking for tips!

Do you take any personal belongings with you? A handbag etc? My job is based at a local school so it's not far away, within walking distance.

And presumeably dress wise is just casual?! (jeans, jumper) I'm just nervous after taking 4 years off work having not done anything like this!

My kids are very excited!

Handbag - only if you'll be provided with a locker

Clothes - smarter end of casual. In winter you'll need a really good coat but you're starting at the right time. If you're standing around you'll be colder than you think. i.e it might be a perfectly pleasant day to walk to the shops in a t-shirt but you might find you need a cardi in the playground. Best way to avoid that and make a great impression is to throw yourself in to the children's games. Personally I'd avoid jeans but many do wear them (ask you line manager?)

IMO this is a really key job in a school, responsible for so much relating to the happiness of welfare of DC (and vastly underpaid) but people who are good at it love it. It's so much more than standing around watching the children. At our school the MDA's got a special mention in the last OFSTED report for their contribution towards such a happy environment.

Good luck and enjoy it.

Lucky you.
I would love to do this job but the hours are too short and it would be awkward fitting anything else in around it.
