Can you help me out here?
Church administrator post is coming up. Does the post need to be advertised beyond the congregation and church website? It has also been discussed within the wider grouping of our churches (7 in total) and advertised vebally to their congregations. Bearing in mind the post is one where the ideally the person would already know the church and also there is a pastoral element to this role too.

there's no legal obligation to advertise a job externally, but it is considered best practice for equal opportunities reasons (the idea being that if jobs are generally given to in-house candidates then traditionally under-represented groups will never be able to break in).

that said, it seems to me that it would be ridiculous to advertise externally in your circumstances, unless you feel that the general point about inclusiveness for under-represented groups outweighs the importance of understanding your church.

Would be very reasonable for you to advertise in the Parish magazine say, as that would be aimed at the Church audience, though there ia no obligation for you to do that.

I think thats fine - do you expect to get someone by word of mouth? If so I wouldn;t stress unduly about advertising it further.
