Part time work/bank holidays

Could you give me your opinions please? I work a 4 day week, 5 hours a day (20 hours). My day off is usually Wednesday but occasionally I may take a different day off to suit either me or my employer - I work in a school so term time only. Bank holidays during term time rarely happen. May Day is (obi) on a Monday 5th, do you think I should be able to also have my usual Wednesday off that week (as well as the BH) or should I work Tues-Fri in lieu... TIA.

Depends what your contract says, how much holiday you get and how much holiday full timers get. Can you elaborate?

If you work for a local authority I would be shocked if you are made to come in on the Wednesday . Why don't you ask your head teacher ?

hiya, thank you for your responses. I was originally contracted to work 5 days a week but 4 hours a day, I asked if I could condense my hours into 4 days, which they were happy for me to do.. I will have to dig out my contract and have a look, but my hours are term time only, with pro rata statutory minimum holiday added in, this is then divided by 12 and I am paid monthly. It is a private school.

If I was doing my original hours 5 days a week I would have the bank holiday off and work 16 hours that particular week, if I take my usual Wednesday and the BH off that week I will work 15 hours.

My employers are very flexible and I have always appreciated their help in enabling me to attend carol concerts, etc, so I don't want to take the pee but I don't want to do more than I need to..!
