Employment Contract

DH has signed a contract to start a new position for beginning May, but suspects he might get another offer for a better position in the meantime.

There's nothing in the contract that specifically says anything, but assuming he gives them plenty of notice he should be able to get out of contract 1 right?

I would be surprised if the contract didn't specify notice periods, but yes provided he gives notice he should be a me to leave as any employee can. It might not do his reputation much good though.

He's not due to start for another month. The notice period is a week in the first month, thereafter a months notice. If I understand correctly, it will be fine to be honest and explain that another opportunity has arisen?
