Help please with cover letter

I have no idea how to start or what to put in cover letter, I'm applying for a retail job I have no experience (which isn't a requirement) but its been so many years since I was last employed (controlling ex issues)! and that was office work. I feel so stupid because I cant even put a cover letter together.

Have a look at national careers service. They have templates and examples of both cv and cover letters.

Also they has job descriptions for all roles which can help with the person specification.

And don't feel stupid, its hard going back to work after a long break. Good luck
