New Product Idea - Help!!

Hello,
I have an idea for a new product (childrens) and I would like to get a prototype made and get the idea patented. I have no idea how to go about doing this. I would be grateful for any advice that could be passed on.

Depending on the type of product , you can do a quick google search to find someone to make a sample for you. Say for example if you want to make a baby grow, the easiest is to find a seamstress/designer to get a sample done.

you can check out in the intellectual property office if there is already a patent for something similar, www.ipo.gov.uk and take it from there?

Its hard to provide more advice without knowing which area the product is in.
