Am I allowed time off for interview?

The situation is that I have an interview (!) for a full time position which looks great, 9-5, teaching me new skills, making use if existing ones. It is for the NHS and within the same organisation just diff dept IYSWIM

It is next Tuesday but I am due on nightshift Monday night and again on Tuesday night, finishing 8am. Interview is 11.30am.

I am going in tonight to ask if I can slide the monday shift back to a late shift, so same no if hours but finishing 1am.

Is there any legislation to help me? Or will I have to rely on their goodwill? (Ha,ha)

Goodwill I think

The only time you are entitled to time off for interviews is if you are facing redundancy.

There is not much history of goodwill when it comes to moving shifts especially nightshifts.

I will ask but if the request for a slide is rejected, I will face interview not having slept for 28 hrs!

Good luck! Can't you sleep on Tuesday before your shift? Although I think if you haven't slept for so long I'd subtly mention it at the interview - shows you really want the job :)

I do really, really want the job. I told the HR person I was on nights but stated that I would be there for interview whatever happened. It may count in my favour.

I will hide the can of red bull.

I would get my head down on Monday afternoon for several hours.

Most Trusts give you time off to attend an interview, more so if the interview is for another nhs position.

And yes Lonecat good idea, I will definitely try to get a good few hours before n/s Monday if I still have to do it.

Ooh tricky! In my experience, most public sector employers give time off for interviews with other public sector employers. In local govt it used to be paid, although that might be out of date now. However technically this would be time off for interview preparation (albeit totally essential sleep!).

Located a lovely nurse and she sorted it immediately. So am now only working til midnight on monday, then interview Tuesday morning and onto nightshift at 11.30pm that night.

Good luck with your interview and glad you got your shift sorted. I am NHS and thought they had to give you time off for interviews.
I am thinking of putting in for a FT post at my old trust (I wish I hadn't left) and they have told me to apply (good sign I guess) but the interviews will be on a day I normally work. So, hopefully, I would have no problems getting the day off.
