What is in a personnel file?

Just wondering what information would be kept in a personnel file and would the employee know about the information it contains

The employee would not necessarily know the detail of everything in all the documents (eg references from previous employers) but as s/he can make a subject access request, an employer should ensure that all info in the file is accurate.

Do you have a particular concern?

I have been instructed to get my personnel file off a previous employer. Just wondered what it would have in it.
