References: current or more relevant

Just looking for advice but am not sure if this is in the right place. I have been offered a job to fit in with my current job and have been asked for references.

My current job is completely different from new job but I have worked in the same area before.

I can't decide whether 2 relevant but over 4 years old references or 1 from then and a current reference which is a completely different job would be more suitable?

Any reason you can't give 3?

Only that they've specifically asked for 2 on form but could give all three

If you could give all three I probably would. Something from a current job is usually useful even if the job isn't relevant as it provides information about reliability, that sort of thing, and also provides confirmation that your work history is correct.
