Transferable skills/Event Manager to...?

I have 14 years international event management experience (US/UK/Europe) mainly in the arts and charity sector. I manage a team and I am on the management team of my department in my current role. However, unpredictable hours and a young family - dc's are 2.8 and 5 mo, the unpredictable hours don't mix so well. Ideally I'd like to go down to 3-4 days a week and if possible with some home working. I return to the workplace in May following this maternity leave and wondered what kind of role might suit my skills & if I could do something else which might have more consistent hours to which I could transfer my experience to outside of my current field. Any suggestions?

How important is the money and prestige to you?

To be honest, I've been looking for an alternative to a high flying PA job but it's nigh on impossible to find an alternative that makes use of my skills, is flexible and pays anything other than minimum wage.

Have a look at public sector, charities and not for profits which often offer a better work/life balance. Be prepared to take a hit on the money though!!!

I work for a charity now... don't be fooled into thinking they give you a better work/life balance ;-) I have worked in both corporate/charity sectors... the money is good in the charity sector but they get their money's worth!

I am prepared to drop salary a little - inevitable if you drop working days/want more flexibility but I do need to pay bills so won't be silly!

I know, I did work for a not-for-profit once upon a time. My work life balance was non-existent!

Can you do a sideways step in your current organisation? That seems to be the best way without having to totally starting from scratch.

I was an Event Manager for 8 years but now can't see how the role can work with a family and no relatives nearby. I've been trying to find part time roles or school jobs. Have seen the occasional part time role that would use my event skills. Really don't want to go and get an office job for pennies that will barely cover childcare cost.

Curious to know if you found an alternative role. I'm in a similar position to you. 14years plus event management experience but not working out with me and my family life.

I managed to get a part time job as a venue finder for the past year or so. It's using skills from event management but the pay is low and the work is repetitive. Having interviews for full time jobs in events again but it's so hard. Keep coming close second...
