Any Art Therapists about?

I've got two children, the youngest is 18months so I've been thinking lately about going back to work. My long term goal is to get into art therapy. I've got an art based degree already so would need to the masters. In the meantime I was thinking of doing a teaching assistant qualification and trying to get some experience of working with children. Also some counselling courses.

Can anyone recommend anything I can do in the meantime to help me gain some experience? Voluntary work or courses that would help, or anything else I haven't thought of? Or any negative aspects that I might not have thought of?

My sister is currently doing her masters in art therapy in Edinburgh. She did a lot of work in hospices and various places holding classes for children with learning difficulties. They want a lot of experience before you apply but she is really enjoying the course.
