Benefits in contract question

Does anyone know what happens to benefits in a contract if they are not taken. Can they be taken up at any point or if you let them lapse do you loose the benefit?

Normally you'd remain entitled to them but it might depend on the wording in the contract and/or what the benefit is.

The wording on the contract says that after 1 years service at the company I am entitled to a membership.

Well if it doesn't say anything more, or anything about this must be taken up by x date, then I'd say you can still do so.
