Maternity cover person promoted ahead of me

I recently returned from mat leave. Have been at my employer for 4 years now.I'm back part time. My maternity cover person was made permanent and has been promoted up a level. I think the new role is basically the same as the old one with a better job title! It seems unfair as I was never made aware that such a role was available, and have made it clear in the past that I wished to be considered for promotion. Where do I stand? Do I have grounds for a complaint? My part time status is on a 6 month trial basis.

You should be told of all promotion opportunities while on maternity leave. When did the promotion happen? Is it a full time job and would you have wanted it? What would you like the outcome of a complaint to be?

As flowery, when fit it become available, was it a role change for her, was it a strictly ft position and what do you want to happen?

The promotion has only just happened but has been mentioned to me for the first time about 8 weeks ago. I don't believe it is a role change. I don't really know what I want to be honest, since I've come back I've had no manager and just been left to it. On balance no, I probably don't want to be promoted as I guess that would mean longer hours and I definitely don't want that. I just feel a bit down about it and like I'm not good enough, doing the job for so long and no promotion and then someone else comes in and gets it within a year!
