Hi everyone,
I am a mother of 16 months, I have BA degree in literature but I want to work with children in a nursery. I had a look at job descriptions for nursery nurse positions. I don't know where to start. We live in Richmond, is there any NVQ 3 course in the area? I would highly appreciate any adviceSmile

Hi Mummydumdrum,
I'm not sure about the courses in your area, but you can search on the National Careers website: nationalcareersservice.direct.gov.uk/advice/courses/Pages/default.aspx
Before you sign up for one of these though, you may prefer to contact some local nurseries and to find out whether they may be prepared to take you on and allow you to study part time to gain NVQs. As an experienced Mum, you have lots of relevant experience already!

Your other alternative would be to consider a teaching qualification. It used to be the case that you had to do a full-time course such as a PGCE to get into teaching. Now, as a graduate there are other routes too. See:
nationalcareersservice.direct.gov.uk/advice/planning/jobprofiles/Pages/NurseryTeacher.aspx and follow the appropriate links.
Hope this helps Smile
