Nursery costs and childcare vouchers

I've been back at work a few months now and getting by on family helping out , but after Christmas and NY it's looking likely I will need to put ds into a nursery for one or two morning a week .

My employer offers childcare vouchers but I have absolutely no idea how they work . How would I calculate how much it is going to cost me ? I have absolutely no idea where to startConfused

Childcare vouchers have an upper limit. It was £243 a month but I know there have been changes and I don't know what has changed.

The nursery we used was about £50 a day; have a google and see what the going rate is in your area.

When you join the voucher scheme you tell them how much you want deducted from your pay up to the maximum allowed. That amount is taken off before tax and NI is applied, so you don't actually lose as much as the amount stopped.

The nursery will give you their reference number to give to the voucher company and you can set up online to automatically pay the nursery.

So can I get vouchers for 100% the cost of my childcare as long as it is less than the limit ?
So basically all the childcare vouchers are is that you don't pay tax on the money you would use to pay for childcare ? If that's the case they won't help me I don't pay tax I don't earn enough . Oh well was worth a try ! Thanks for the info ! Smile

Oh that's a shame. Can you get the childcare element of tax credits?

No Sad with DHs income we earn too much . But his employer doesn't offer childcare vouchers . Oh well I guess I'll just have to pay full wack . It's only two mornings a week at the most though so hopefully won't hit us too hard .
