Hello!
I have been out of work for nearly a year looking. Before when I was working I was working nights and had a partner that helped.
Now he's left and it is just me! And DS aged 7.
Now I'm going to be doing 9-5 days, I have contacted the school before/after school club to see if they have space for him and asked for other contacts if no.
I will contact tax credits nearer my start date. I don't sign on so don't need to worry about that. I will cancel DS's free school meals as I probably won't qualify for them any more.

Is there anything else I need to know/ plan for? I feel like i'm missing something out. Any help gratefully received.

Well Done!!! Grin
Now practicalities!! what happens if the after-school club is full? is there any childminders near you to do pick ups and take to school? if not CM route schools have long holidays! find out about holiday clubs now for feb half term/ easter/summer. I tend to find bigger organisations better, camp beaumont, barracudas (v good and do a monthly no interest instalments) find out from work if you can get childcare vouchers.
Also friends/family are they close by could they help in an emergency/ inset/snow days etc.

sorry just realised that could make you panic.
relax- depending on how much you are getting would an after school nanny work?
Relax I presume you aren't starting until the new year! Just think at least if you need new work clothes the sales will be on Xmas Grin

Stay calm and think through everything. My mum is really helpful and a few of my mates owe favours so when Im not able to pick up DD its a quick call to a mate, "remember when i did this for you Grin" 9-5 is pretty good hours because at least you know your hours are fixed, the thing i found when going back to work is make sure you make time to spend with DS as youve gone from being around to being at work 9-5
