Recruitment event?

I was recently invited to a "recruitment event" for a job I applied for. What the heck is a "recruitment event"? It's 3 1/4 hours long and will consist of "a number of exercises that will allow you to show your key skills." Has anyone been to or heard of anything like this? What should I expect? Anything I can do to prepare? It's for a PR manager job.

I was enticed to attend a 'recruitment event' on a summer break from uni and ended up in a room with 50 others being lectured by some really dodgy company to sign up on a commission only basis to sell some type of dodgy insurance with the promise that I could potentially earn £5000pw!! I walked out.
I'm sure this isn't the same but do your research before investing over 3 hours of your time. Good luck if it is genuine though!

Huh, I hope this isn't like that. It's put on by a pretty reputable company.

Oh I'm sure it won't be! Just thought I'd share my experience. If you've been invited after applying for a position it's probably just a modern and more informal way of doing an interview. Sorry I can't be of more help except the generic things like make sure you know everything you can about the company and its competitors. As its PR try and find some industry relevant current/recent successful/disaster PR campaigns to research. Best of luck.
