Advice please

I'm unemployed right now but will be looking to get part time work after Xmas but also want to start a small business that most likely won't be profitable to start with as will be saving/using money to drum up business.

What id like to know is what do I do with regard to DWP etc?
Do declare myself self employed without much earning ?and also I will be employed so will receive relevant tax credits,housing allowance etc.
Can you be self employed and and employee?

you can have as many sources of income as you like
yes, register as self employed when you start
tax credits will not take into account self employed hours till you start earning
