How long would you expect to wait before hearing about a job application?

I applied for a job and had an email last Monday to say my cv had been received and I would hear in "due course", but not heard anything yet - so I am being too impatient?

I think it depends who with and when the closing date is if there is one..

I would think that if it's a single post advertised that two weeks after the closing date would be roughly when the interview was

but some places are quite slack and others are are really desperate

Hmm. There was no closing date on the ad (was on the local job website(not jobcentre)). When I applied I said in my email I had only just seen the ad and hoped I wasn't too late but I may have spotted it on the first day! It's to work in a small rural town and I seriously doubt there will be many applications, businesses have a real problem filling vacancies round here. That's why I'm so suprised I haven't heard anything really!
