Broaching PT working after Mat leave...

Just need some advice. I recently had a chat with my boss who is supportive in principle to me returning to work part-time. But she said I need to 'sell it' to 'the business' and put something in writing to HR in the new year. I don't know how specific to be, what to include and the tone? Obviously I want to get their support! Any one had any success?

I agreed it in principle with my line manager before i went on mat leave. Basically you need to demonstrate how you will still be able to go your job with no negative impact on the business.

Bumping. Going on mat leave in march (3rd dc) want to return on fewer hours. Scared to broach the subject!

There's some information on how to apply here:
www.gov.uk/flexible-working/making-a-statutory-application
And an application template here:
www.direct.gov.uk/prod_consum_dg/groups/dg_digitalassets/@dg/@en/@employ/documents/digitalasset/dg_179564.rtf
You have the right to make a request, and your employer must properly consider it. They can only refuse it on one or more of a number of permitted business grounds - linked above. If they reject your request, they should explain why they have applied the permitted business grounds. You have the right to appeal if your request is rejected.
Good luck!
