Those websites are really helpful.
One of the things I do for my staff when they go on maternity leave is to write them a letter stating exactly what they will get when, so 90% of pay which is X till this date, then SMP which is Y till this date. The procedure if they would like to use their KIT days. That they accrue holidays on maternity leave and that it can be tacked on to the end of maternity leave. Finally their expected returned to work date, if they would like to return earlier what notice they need to give and equally if they do not wish to return what notice they need to give. They seem to really like this particularly what money they are going to get when laid out nice and clearly.
I have also always thought ahead so if they putting in a flexible working application after maternity leave I have considered how it could be accommodated.

As a small business owner getting this really right can give you very loyal and long term members of staff.
