Sick leave - holiday accrued

I have a zero hour contract and work for a homecare company.

I have recently had 4 weeks off sick, my holiday pay is worked out by an average of hours I have done in the previous 8 weeks.

My manager was unable to tell me what holiday hours I would accrue whilst off sick.

Can anyone tell me this?

As you have a zero hours contract, you will accrue zero hours. It is one of the many, many reasons zero hours contracts should be illegal

So legally you have to accrue holiday while off sick but if you have a zero hour contract you accrue no hours anyway? That doesn't make any sense.

It does, it just really penalises people on a zero hour contract.

If you've had 4 weeks off, and your holiday is usually accrued based on 8 weeks, it'll depend entirely on the other four weeks. You'll get nothing for the time off. So if it's four weeks that you've already worked, it should be easy enough to work out. If it's worked out based on the next four weeks, take as many hours as you can to increase the average, and make up for the sick leave.

Well I've had to take 3 days holiday because it's so close to Christmas and I've no money but I will save the rest until I have done more hours. I can't believe that I don't get any wages for the time I have had off sick, that's bloody awful.
Would prefer it if it were worked out on my hours prior to being off sick.

I hate zero hours contracts too. The only person not on zero hours is the bosses sons girlfriend.

My work do it by payment amount, so I will get £84 worth of holiday accrued from the time I had off sick.
