Does anyone remember when the govt were talking about introducing some sort of allowance for grandparents, friends etc if they were looking after your kids while you were at work? Did they ever do it, and if so, what is it called and how do I claim?

As far as I know they didn't. They introduced the childcare tax voucher things, but it doesn't include family/friends etc

Currently the only thing that friends, nannies & anyone who isn't required to register with Ofsted can do is opt to get approved through Childcare Approval Scheme but it seems that relatives of the child won't qualify for childcare tax credits or childcare voucher scheme use.
