Purchasing a registered domain name

Has anyone successfully done this before? How long did it take and how much did it cost?

The domain name I want has been registered by this company and when I checked WHOIS they'd renewed it in September 2013. It is not being used, it just seems to be taken.

If the domain was registered you would have quite a battle in terms of trying to take it from the current owner.

The situation depends very much on if it is a .co.uk or if it is a .com domain. The process of trying to claim ownership is different for the two.

If the are using your trademarked brand/company name, then you MAY be have a claim. If it is simply a domain name you desire, then you have no claim....regardless of what the other people are using it for... or indeed if they are using it at all.

People buy domain names to sell... It's very annoying. If you contact them they might sell but people put stupid prices on domain names. Can you put a hyphen in it or something?
