How long is typical to wait on hearing if you got an interview when you have applied for a job??

I applied for a job I saw advertised almost 2 weeks ago. I think I fill the description on the ad really well and was almost sure that I would get an interview. It was a fairly specific set of skills required and my cv shows I have all of them. The ad stated that only sucessful candidates would be notified and I am now worried that I diddn't even get an interview. Do you think I would have heard by now if I was sucessful?

Did they set a closing date for applications?

vitomum · 03/07/2006 10:30

hard to say. Why don't you phone them and ask if they have shortlisted yet?

Rhubarb · 03/07/2006 10:30

When was the deadline for applications? I heard about a week after the deadline had closed, could be that your application was one of the early ones?

Carmenere · 03/07/2006 10:37

I applied the day before the closing date. I had a feeling that they may fill the position internally but as they are not a state company they weren't obligated to advertise so I was quite hopefull. So it's bad then that I haven't heard yet? It was to cover maternity leave though, how soon in advance would they be trying to sort that out?

Could someone just throw me an iota of hope please?

Phone them and put yourself out of your misery!

Surfermum · 03/07/2006 11:36

Maybe the shortlisting manager has been on holiday? Give them a call!

Carmenere · 03/07/2006 11:42

Ok, I have just emailed the relevent woman, fingers crossed {weak}

Have you heard anything Carmenere?

Carmenere · 05/07/2006 19:40

Not a thing . Am quite dissapointed as I have quite a specific set of skills and the requirements were for those very skills. I am now resigned to having not got an interview but I will admit I am a bit sad about it particularly as they diddn't even answer the follow up email.

Not necessarily. Maybe the person you emailed is on holiday or off sick and that's held things up. Or something has held up the shortlisting. We can take an embarassingly long time where I work to interview people. The last person we appointed said the other day she thought we weren't inviting her for interview as it took so long. The reason behind it was that the senior managers were going to freeze the post and we were arguing to keep it.

Carmenere · 05/07/2006 19:48

Oh that's great to hear Surfermum, I just know that I would have a bloody good chance to get the job if I got an interview. Well I'll keep my fingers crossed for a little longer

that's a shame, but i agree with surfermum. I would be surprised if you did not get a response at all to your email, so i think it is entirely likely that you will - soon i hope.

SherlockLGJ · 05/07/2006 19:52

Just face it, your CV is crap, more holes in it than a Swiss cheese and you are not going to get the job.

Does that make it easier for you ?

Carmenere · 05/07/2006 19:55

My CV is deeply impressive, and I am perfect for the job, and the person who is being slack about shortlisting will be in BIG trouble when their superiors find out that they nearly missed their opportunity to employ me!!

Did you mention modest ??

Surfermum · 05/07/2006 19:56

That's the spirit Carmenere.

Carmenere · 05/07/2006 20:01

Actually LGJ you may appreciate that this is an unusual situation for me as back home(Ireland)it's much, much easier to get work via word of mouth (and nepotism, of course). So basically I have to develop a bit of a tough skin and stick my neck out until I get a position!
