I have currently resigned from my job as a veterinary nurse as the hours were too much to handle with a 6 month old baby. I am on maternity leave at the moment but the pay is rubbbish and need to start working again. I have a job lined up but am unsure whether i can start working now or have to wait until my months notice period had finished?? can anyone help me with this, have tryed to find out but have had no luck. Im worred that if I start working somewhere whilst my current work our still paying my maternity pay that I will end up having to pay it back. its all very confusing.

Your maternity pay will obviously need to stop when you end your maternity leave by going back to work. If you want to start a new job you need to ask your employer if they will release you early. I'm sure they will, as there's nothing really to be gained by them keeping you employed at home.

Look at your contract - when I was in the civil service you had to work for 30 days after return from maternity leave - or pay back any money in excess of the statutory minimum. Which would have been a LOT..... I went back for half a day- the rest was saved leave..
