Do you think it's rude to ask salary before interview?

I have been invited for an interview. It is a couple of hours travel for me & I have no clue on what the salary is. This would make quite a difference as the job is a little out of my comfort zone. I resigned from a company recently after a short time & don't want to make the same mistake.

No definitely ask! I would need to know salary before applying for a job.
If it's close to what you want, you may be able to negotiate if you get offered the Job, if it's way under then no point travelling all that way (unless you have been looking for ages/ urgently need a job/new career etc of course!).

Not at all rude. I'm astonished they expect anyone to attend an interview without any idea what the salary might be.

no way, definitely ask! I'd never go to an interview without knowing the salary, as if it was lower than the one I was currently on there would be no way I would take the job, so going to the interview would have been a massive waste of everyone's time.

I did this last week
They wanted me to go 200 miles for a interview, and salary hadn't been mentioned
They were fine with me asking, and fine when I cancelled because the salary was half what I wanted!

Asked & glad I did!
