Exam Script Marking, how do you get into it?

Hi there,

Is there anyone out there who is marking exam scripts for accountancy examinations? I have been trying to get into this field of work, does anyone have any ideas how I would go about it?

(Thought is might be a way of supplementing my income and doing some CPD at the same time)

I used to work for ACCA for many years in the education department. Either write to the examiner direct or write to the education department specifying which exams you want to mark for.

Not sure it would count as CPd though - I'm not sure they pay much per script.

No it doesn't count as CPD. The pay depends on the type of script and the time it takes.

Thanks for the info. So Suejonez your an accountant as well? ACCA, ACA or CIMA?

ACA but so many years ago it seems a bit irrelevant now!

You'd be surprised, ACA is still a very sought after qualification, especially for lecturers and practice.

I am ACCA and have just returned to work after a 7 year break. Did toy with the idea of doing something different (social worker, teacher) but didn't want to do the retraining and low salary stuff again!

yes the salary just hooks you in doesn't it. I would love to change but can earn more doing a 4 day week as an FD to a small company than anything else I would do - and I'm underpaid for what I do!

I work shorter working days, so that I can leave in time to meet the children after school. My office is a 5 minute walk from their schools.

Yes and I too am dreadfully underpaid(No, really, I am!)

Ah but I am FD from that chair there to the desk over there - ie very small company. Oh for the days when of the mammoth salary and world travel. On the otherhand I work a four day week and pretty reasonable hours and (almost) everyone does what i tell them to!
