Stay Bank Staff or go Contracted

I have been bank which is pretty good, very flexible.

I can go onto a contact if I like. The plus to this is that I am guaranteed a set number of hours per week. (Contract staff are given their hours, and bank staff gets what is left putting it in simplistic terms.)

However, I have very very rarely not had plenty of hours. Next week been one of them. This has made me think about a fixed hours contract more.

But, being contract is not as flexible, say in respect of childcare problems. As at the moment, I can simply state when I am available on a weekly basis.

Whilst if contracted I would be expected to fulfill my hours regardless. BUT my Employees are very good people, and do take into account your home circumstances.

Am I answering my own question!? Go contract?

I would love objective opinions, I can be so easily swayed by people I know!

Going contract normallly means you get pension rights/sick pay/maternity pay and holiday pay which is good ...though you also often get a lower hourly rate. COuld you just get a low hours contract, for say one shift per week, and then top it up with extra on the bank?

Thats a really good idea. I was sort of going with either 0 hours or 35 hours!!!

But, if I ask for a 20 hour contract, but say I am available for more (which they know I am....

Thank you!!!
