Shop owner what do I need to know

I'm looking into setting up a small children's clothes shop. In my local small high street. The high street is a growing place and prospects look good. I'm wondering what expenses I can expect. I have seen a small shop with reasonable rent and it would be rates free.

This is probably a stupid question but do wholesalers charge up front for stock? Or do you get time to sell some before having to pay? I'm thinking of doing a mixture of new and lightly used.

Some places will offer a 30 day payment facility but others require payment upon receipt of goods.

It varies wildly between companies- best speak to your prospective suppliers

It really depends on each company's terms. When I started my shop I had to pay some upfront for the first orders and then once they saw I was genuine they gave me an account with 30 or 60 days dating on the invoices. I'd make done calls to various wholesalers and ask their terms. It might just decide who you shop with at the start!
