What are your thoughts about people who feel its OK to blow up in your face at work, because you are a middle manager and they can't voice what that feel at senior managers? Other people tend to brush it aside by saying "...it's just how they are" but it's peeing me off no end!! Don't want a confrontation but not prepared to put up with this again.

When you say blow up in your face, what are they doing? Literally shouting in your face is not acceptable behaviour.

Oh I had a stupid b!tch of a boss who did this. One day i just said to her calmly and quietly "When you talk to me in a rational manner, then I will talk to you" then turned away. Imagine they're a toddler having a tantrum (having 2DC helps !). She then moaned to someone else (very professional NOT) about what I said, and that person said, as has happened to you, "Oh it's just how L is." To which I replied "I don't pander to other people's shortcomings." (Yes, I'd had a rough night with DC and was very grumpy).
I think sometimes you just have to be tough. Not rude, just tough. As women we are reluctant to do this unfortunately.

Thanks both, I did just walk away, but after telling her she was out of order. She did shout in my face slightlysoupstained but apologised the next day, saying thats how she becomes because she feels so strongly about her job. Am working on my toughness kiwimumof2boys, sometimes its really difficult when these things happen out of the blue though.

Yeah i agree it is hard when things like this happen unexpectedly.
Sounded like you handled it well by walking away Smile
