when to admit to pregnancy?

So, I work for the nhs and have been in the same dept for 5 years. In july I was promoted and went up a band on a six month secondment with a view to the post being made permanent. Then, last month a consultation was begun which meant as well as me reapplying for my role many other people would be too which is fair enough. I recently found out im pregnant, I dont want to tell work until after 12 or 13 weeks as I had a complicated mc last dec and needed 3 months off. Plus they werent discreet. So my question is, should I tell them before interview or after? I dont want them to think im keeping it a secret to get the job but equally well im sure it will influence their decision. Ty for getting through my mixed up post.

I didn't tell work until 16 weeks, and only then because I was started to show so it was becoming obvious.

In my work (also NHS) you don't have to inform them you are pregnant and intend to take mat leave until 25 weeks.

You do not need to inform your employer until the 15th week before EDD.

If your work involves anything which you know or think might be a hazard to the pg, it is advisable to tell them straight away so a proper assessment can be made and your duties amended as appropriate.

Waiting until after a 12 week scan is totally normal, and I wouldn't let the timings of the job changes alter your decision. Unless of course it is a redundancy situation, for although you can be made redundant when pg,it must not be because of the pg. And if you are (fairly) selected for redundancy during pg, you have enhanced rights about being offered an alternative post. But of course that cannot happen if your employer does not know.

Thanks poke. I told a trusted colleague only because I have a hazardous job and she is able to minimise the risk a bit. I am fearful of getting the job and fearful of not! Also v stressed about mc again. Bloody hell!

I would tell them. Firstly you have a hazardous job so should tell them anyway, and second they are going to be much more concerned about making you redundant (is that the outcome of unsuccessful interview for your job?) if they know you are pregnant.

Thanks flowery. I wont be redundant, I will return to my old job (more hazardous). I have also worked hard during the secondment so I wouldnt mind if someone genuinely was a better candidate for the job, but id hate yo think it was just because im pregnant iykwim. People are only now applying as they will be demoted if they dont get jobs at my band. Also I did here my managers saying something discriminatory about someone they interviewed which has really troubled me. On balance my old job is fine but im not sure im making the best choices. Thanks for the advice.

I wouldn't tell them personally. Then they can't take it into account either way.

I told them today as I keep ending up in risky situations. Ty for advice all fingers crossed it ive done the right thing
