How long do nannies last?

Sorry about thread title - What I mean is what is a normal amount of time for a nanny to work for the same family? Should I be wary of employing a nanny whose CV is a long list of 6 to 8 month jobs or is this normal.
Hinnigan? Could you help?

I would be doubtful, & more to the point my rather principled nanny would definitely think it not right. She didn't enjoy her second job (we're her third), but told me she stuck out a year with the family because (a) she thought it was only fair to the children and (b) she knew it would look better as job history. And that was just one job, rather than a long series.

On the other hand, your candidate might be an energetic traveller type who deliberately only wanted short jobs, and if you're looking for the same she might be perfect. But if you're looking for the usual length of time, which in my experience is at-least-12-months, then you'll really have to grill her references on several of those past jobs.

I think I would look for someone who had spent about 2 yrs with a family. Fair enough one short stint, but not a series.

Thanks, thought it looked a bit dodgy.
The nanny search continues then

sorry about late reply, hope you get this. I would be a little weary, I would look for the nanny atleast staying with one of her familys for 2 years this shows she is dedicated and likes to see the job through, and is more likely to do the same for you.

Thanks Hinnigan
