Second maternity leave

I am returning to work from maternity leave in October. My ds will be one in December and we plan to start trying for number two then. I'm a bit worried about starting a second maternity leave within a year ( obviously I'm aware I may not get pregnant straight away) and how my manager will react - she was lovely about my first pregnancy even though I hadn't bee in the job long. Two years between Dc seems really common so lots of people must do this. Al I being silly for worrying?

Totally don't worry. You cant really plan these things so just take it as it comes Grin

They've been great about it for me. I fear they might be weary by the third time so plan to not got back pregnant with the third :-)

I returned to work after 14 months leave (inc holiday) when dc1 was 13 months. Two days in I discovered I was pregnant with dc2, worked for 8.5 months and now on mat leave again.

I can't say it was an easy decision and management/my team certainly didnt take it very well, but everyone soon got used to the idea and although its scary o take two leaves so close together, IMO it suis me better.

I am getting the hard, baby/childcare years done early and close together enough for me to still be young enough to get back into my career (am 30) and go for promotion etc once dc2 is 1.

The way I also see it is I am a damn hard worker when I am there, have been with the company many years and a company wouldn't factor in your loyalty to them if they had cuts/redundancies to make, so why should I pause having a family for them?

I plan to stop at two children, be back at work by 31 and resume working FT, so the way I see it, what difference would it make if I waited 1-2 years after mat leave 1 before getting pg again. Is far better for me to get both done out the way so I can get back to work quicker.

Don't worry! 2 years is normal. They won't be surprised that you have another child.

I had 12m back at work between babies. I think my team were expecting it and glad I'd got on with it quickly. Now when I go back this time, I'm back for good so can crack on with it. I've made it very clear that I'm not having anymore babies so I'm expecting to be taken seriously again! (Perhaps I'm being a little naive though!!)

I feel the same Doitnow. The inbetween bit is a bit strange, as we started ttc a few months after I returned to work, so it was very much on my mind and I was already thinking about the next maternity leave!

My career does mean a lot to me and I plan to put more into my development again when DC are slightly older.
