Signed off work but nobody in office has acknowledged it

I emailed in yesterday after I saw the doctor and was signed off - huge family/personal problems resulting in terrible anxiety. I work two days a week since mat leave. never been signed off before.

I've asked who to send my sick note to (company recently restructured).
No reply since yesterday afternoon, I'm feeling too panicky to call, it makes me v nervous... I guess I will just post sick note to the general manager but they haven't even replied one sentence to my email.

I don't know why I'm surprised... when I started mat leave 1 week earlier than planned due to ill-health they never responded to me, and I didn't hear anything for 9 months, even when I had the baby.

Been there 5 years and it's so demoralising. Feel worthless

Don't you have a HR department? I would send it to them tbh.

Hope you start to feel better soon.

Please try not to take it personally. Remember that communications with people who are signed off sick are very tightly proscribed. Someone is probably working on composing a response to your email, but it will have to be checked by HR before it's sent.

No HR dept, it's a small company

I think you're over-reacting tbh. Very understandable given your anxiety but look - it's 11am. Do you even know if somebody has seen the e-mail yet? Let alone tracked down the answer. Also now you're off they need to cover your work. So far from being worthless a delay in reply actually shows how much you're worth to them.

yop · 06/08/2013 11:17

Really, OP, it's way too early to fret about not getting a reply - you only emailed them yesterday afternoon. Give them till the end of the day then resend the email and ask for an acknowledgement.

Would it be possible to phone in?

mrspuddleduckie · 07/08/2013 10:34

Sorry, I think I was being a bit panicky. It is sorted now, off this week and next week.

I work two days a week (not consecutive) and they have mentioned that I'll be paid SSP

I thought that you only received SSP after the first four days off sick. But technically I only work 4 days in a two week period. Given that I hope to be back at work without any more time off and haven't had time off for this before, I had reassured myself I wouldn't lose pay. Have I totally missed the point?

Trying not to let myself get anxious

Don't mind me - just read up on gov.uk and got my answer (should have read up before posting). Now have the money to worry about.

Thanks for replies everyone, much appreciated
