Im hoping someone can shed some light on my situation please.
Im currently on Maternity leave which is due to end in November, I will not be returning to my current job under any circumstances (horrid employers) so therefore I'm on the lookout for a new one. Ive seen a great job today which is exactly what I want, the only thing is IF...a massive IF... I got the job I don't know how to go about telling my current employers that I want to finish maternity leave early and return to another job? Does the normal notice period apply or does that really matter because they're not expecting me back (as far as they're aware) until November? My notice period would be 4 weeks for quitting my job but I've read that you have to give 8 weeks notice if I want to return sooner... does that only apply if you wish to go back to your current job?
I understand that SMP stops the week before you start a new job but obviously I don't want to be stoping SMP early when I don't have a job. I won't have to pay anything back because I had no top up maternity benefits.
