Going part-time/flexible working when not a parent

Hi, I'm not a parent but I know many people here have experience with going part-time...

I'm due to pay off my mortgage in a year (woohoo!) and am thinking of going part-time when I do - maybe 4 or even 3 days a week. I work a desk job - doing IT for a large multinational company. I've been here for a few years.

How do I go about asking to work part-time? Do I put in a flexible working request (just like people retuning form maternity leave do) or is there a different process for non-parents? Am I likely to be granted my wish? Or would I be better off looking for a new job that's part-time from the outset?

Thanks in advance.

Hi

Lucky you finishing with the mortgage!
I asked to go part time before I had my lb as I wanted to take some time for myself due to my fathers death & just being generally stressed. My employer told me I could take unpaid time off but my role wasn't suitable for a pt position so I got a new job (3 days a week)
It really depends on your employer but I got a big fat no :(
Hope yours works out better :)
